In India, BMW Motorrad has discontinued its most affordable motorcycles BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS. Both of these have also been removed from the official website of BMW India. At the same time, in India, only G 310 RR is now available for sale in the company’s 310cc range. According to media reports, the stock of these motorcycles has also almost ended at the dealership.
Launched in 2018 after much delay, the BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS emerged from a partnership between TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad, which also resulted in the TVS Apache RR 310. When the two BMW motorcycles made in India went on sale, they were the smallest bikes offered by the German brand in terms of size and engine. The bikes were manufactured at TVS Motor Company’s plant in Hosur near Bengaluru and were also exported to foreign markets. BMW sold 1640 units of motorcycles in the country in 2018, which accounted for 75 per cent of the company’s total sales at the time.
BMW G 310 R
This was a street fighter bike that came in the 300cc segment. It used a 312cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine, which generated 34PS of power and 28Nm of torque. Its ex-showroom price in the Indian market was Rs 2.90 lakh. The reason behind its discontinuation was the less features available in it. Also, its performance was also average. This bike of BMW fell weak on the scale of “Value for Money”.
BMW G 310 GS
It was known as a touring and off-road motorcycle. Its look was quite premium, but it lagged far behind the KTM 390 Adventure and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. Both these motorcycles came at a much lower price than this. At the same time, the ex-showroom price of Rs 3.30 lakh of G 310 GS seems quite high.
Will G 310 RR also be discontinued
Will G 310 RR Also Be Discontinued?
After the discontinuation of sales of BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS in India, BMW is selling only G 310 RR. It is also based on TVS Apache RR 310 and uses the same engine and design. The only difference between these two bikes is the BMW badge and minor changes. Both come with many great features, but the TVS version is more advanced. In such a situation, it is being speculated that it may also be discontinued soon.
What is BMW’s Plan Now?
The company has showcased the BMW F 450 GS concept at Auto Expo 2025. This bike is based on the new 450cc parallel twin engine platform. This engine can be seen in the upcoming BMW motorcycles, which can be new adventure and naked streetfighter bikes. This could be the first BMW motorcycle equipped with this new engine. It was introduced at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025.
